Cosmetic Tattooing FAQ

What are the lasting benefits of a Cosmetic Tattoo?
  • Thicken and define sparse or thinning brows
  • Have perfect eyeliner that won’t smudge or rub off
  • Restore brows and lashes lost due to chemotherapy or alopecia
  • Forget about poking yourself in the eye when trying to apply make up with a visual impairment
  • Revive uneven lips that have faded from age or scared from cold sores
  • Never worry about losing your make up in the pool again, as cosmetic tattooing is waterproof once healed
  • Wake up with youthful eyebrows, luscious lips and perfect eyeliner every day
How long will my cosmetic tattoo last?

While the average client’s tattooing lasts approximately 12 months, some need a refresh appointment after 6 months, and others can hold out for up to 2 years. The longevity of your semi-permanent make up depends on a number of factors such as sun exposure, density of the pigment used, your skin type and your metabolism. It’s useful to send Amanda a picture of your brows 6-8 months after your last appointment, so that she can determine when they’ll need touching up again.

Will medication or ill health affect my result?

Smoking can impact the result and longevity of tattooing, especially on the lips. Blood-thinning medications, including fish oils, can have an effect on how the tattooing heals, while anti-depressants and medications for anxiety may change how the pigment holds over time. Amanda can discuss the factors of illness and medication with you at a consultation, but feel free to contact us if you have any specific questions or concerns.

Will facial treatments or creams affect the longevity of my tattooing?

Face creams with any active ingredients will fade the tattooing. For instance, if you put cream on your forehead and not on your eyebrows it still will travel under the skin and in time fade your eyebrows sooner and in some cases alter the colour. Most moisturisers, toners etc can be safely used without impacting the tattooing.

How can I be confident in who I choose as a technician?

It can be a bit scary choosing someone to cosmetically tattoo you – it’s your face after all! Take your time and do your research, ensuring you read many reviews from actual tattoo clients. View lots of “before” and “after” photos, and make sure the photos actually belong to the technician. The most important thing is to find someone who has substantial, proven experience. Be careful to not be fooled by magazines ads as they are not actual reviews, they are mostly paid for.
